Zsa Zsa Gabor Is loosing her leg

It's been a rollercoaster ride for actress Zsa Zsa Gabor who was recently told by doctors that she would need to have partial leg amputation surgery, but now it appears the Hungarian-born actress/socialite will keep all of her leg. Just a few days ago, Gabor was rushed to the hospital with infected lesions on one of her legs, which doctors thought was going to become gangrene.

What is gangrene? Gangrene is when a significant amount of body tissue dies (like a leg or part of a leg) because of inadequate blood supply. The cause of gangrene can include injuries or infection (Gabor's case). Diabetes and long-term smoking can increase the risk of suffering from gangrene. Gangrene does not mean that a body part turns completely green, although the affected body part does turn black, green and yellowish-brown.

Treatments for gangrene may include debridement (removal of a patient's dead, damaged, or infected tissue), antibiotics, vascular surgery, maggot therapy or hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or leg amputation surgery (removal of a limb or body part) as in Gabor's situation.

Because gangrene is a life-threatening condition, doctors ordered Gabor to undergo a lower leg amputation just below the knee. However, now it's being reported that Gabor will not need leg amputation surgery because the powerful antibiotics that doctors placed her on appear to have stopped the infection.

Gabor had been wheelchair bound since 2002 since her car accident in Los Angeles. Apparently her hairdresser crashed into a light pole. In 2005, she had a stroke and endured surgery to remove an arterial blockage. In 2007, she had surgery again that was related to her previous stroke, and then had surgery to treat an infection.

She had been in the hospital in July 2010, after she fell at home. She was required to have a hip replacement. She left the hospital, but soon returned, and was in critical condition after the removal of two blood clots. Gabor thought she was going to die and requested a priest to perform last rites.

In November of 2010, Gabor was hospitalized for a swollen leg, which was initially thought to be a blood clot, but actually turned out to be an infection. According to Gabor's ninth husband, Prince Frederic Von Anhalt, doctors advised Gabor before the holidays to have surgery. she wanted to be home for what could be her last holiday she mentioned as she check out of the hospital. The infection worsened and she faced amputation.

Gabor has lived a celebrated life as one of the famous Gabor sisters. Oscar-winning actor George Sanders and hotel magnate Conrad Hilton are among her previous husbands. her movies includes "Moulin Rouge" in 1952, "The Story of Three Loves" in 1953, "The Girl in the Kremlin" in 1957 and Orson Welles' 1958 classic, "Touch of Evil."

Her latest role seems to be that of survivor. The 93-year-old Gabor appears to have missed the bullet again and will not have to have her leg amputated.
